Barbie Doll Memories

I can remember as a little girl loving to play with Barbie Dollss, I loved being able to dress them up in different outfits and pretend. Always meticulous to take care with the clothing and miniture accessories such as shoes and purses. I can remember saving my allowence to go to a small shop on main street that was run by two elderly sisters, but the crochet and sewed outfits for barbies and would sell them. Having these one of a kind outfits was like having a personal designer. We would create furniture out of old boxes, use empty thread spools and decorated tin cans as tables and chairs. I can remember in the summer lining up the dolls by the pool to sunbathe and take a dip. Of course Barbie always had the latest fashions for the glamorous seaside. But the ultimate was taking them down to the lakeside at my grandparents cottage for a seaside retreat for barbie and friends. Of course one of the highlights was all the other little girls who where there to bring out their dolls and compare, trade clothes and just have a good old time. Then of course we grow up and have to dress ourselves in the latest fashions and while it is fun it just does not seem to hold the same magic as it did with Barbie. Though I no longer even own a Barbie as I have passed them on to other little girls, I remember with fondness all the joy I got from playing with that simple little doll that is still a universal joy to little girls. |
