Common Courtesy
What ever happened to common courtesy? In todays world of rush here and there it seems the few that are actually courteous have to make up for the many that are not. One would think that by now we would have grown as a society to have the many making up for the few but it does not appear that way. Is it fear of insulting someone, political correctness or just plan "we don't care anymore". How hard is it to help a struggling mother by opening the door or stopping long enough for a senior to cross safetly in front of us. Or even giving a wider berth to bicycles and pedestrians since we are driving several thousand pounds of metal at high speeds? A fast paced world full of technology that if you type in capitol letters you are considered rude but if you ignore someone in need its no big deal. How sad that truly is, but I guess the state of our society is to blame with all the violent people on the loose these days! But is it really all that much worse these days or is the problem or cause just the fact that we KNOW more about it. There have always been perverts out there it was just swept under the rug years ago. Courtesy an odd concept for a society that lives behind walls and computer screens, so maybe the lack of courtesy is due to the fact that we are slowly doing without human contact and have forgotten how to be courteous. Or has each generation forgotten to teach the next how to carry it on and only replaced being courteous with the new fears of distrust and MYOB. Our business should be our society if not the whole of it at least the immediate area like out town and state. We all seem to wait for the other guy to do it so we don't have to. Odd that even sometimes when we are courteous the intended recipient does not appreciate it. I personally perfer to be courteous and respectful but that is my opinion and hopefully I can make one persons day by trying. |
