Helping Others

By S.e. Simmons of Fortress Nutrition

Helping others is something we are all told to do but what does it really mean. Giving to charities is a wonderful thing and most manage to put the money to the best possible use. But giving needs to consist of more than just writing a check and letting someone else deal with the problems.

Giving should also include acts of kindness, chilvary and just plain old fashion courtesy. Opening or holding the door or elevator for someone is a simple act that is very appreciated.

Simply saying excuse me and thank you are also effortless acts of giving.

Stopping to let pedestrians cross safely is a minor inconvience but think about the weather outside and you are sitting in your nice war/cool car.

Maintaining control over your children in stores, resturants and movies is also another form of courtesy. I love kids but still get annoyed when there is a screaming child that disturbs my time out( yes I understand it is unplanned) Anytime my kids mis-behaved they were left out of the next outting and that usually solved the problem.

Being courteous to others take little effort and while there may be situations that require a harsher attitude, if we all took the effort to be nice to just one new person each day, imagine how much freindly the world would be.

During the Holidays do everyone including yourself a favor and strive to do something nice for someone you usually ignore. Shovel the walk for an elderly neighbor or offer to help with the groceries. Volunteer to babysit or stay with and adult while the care giver gets a break. Donate toys, food, or time to local charities or church functions.
Give someone you don't know a christmas gift/pointsetta or just a plain old smile and merry christmas.

Not only will you help others but you will elevate your own moood and feel better about yourself. The more good things you do the better you feel and the world is a happier place all around.

Happy Holidays to All and may your New Year be filled with Joy, laughter and Happiness each and every day.
