Owning an Internet Store

These days everyone will tell you they have a system for selling online. You can go pay money to have someone sell you and "turnkey" business or do drop shipping. However they do not tell you how much real effort it takes nor do they tell you all the things you need to know like how to optimise your store, how to advertise without going broke, how to get into the search engines. People are under the impression that running an online business is like checking into your email once a day and just collecting money- sorry to tell you it just isn't so. Running an online business takes as much work as a normal business, granted there may be much less physical labor but the mental labor is the same or higher. You still have to deal with irrate customers, theft and loss, shipping and receiving, advertising, accounting and more. Plus the added joy of dealing with people who can hide behind a computer screen. There are ways to make money online but make no mistake about it, there is alot of time and effort involved in all those fancy websites with pictures and description and payment gateways. All the "big boys" that pop up in the advertising are spending "big bucks" to stay ahead of you and while there are less expensive and free ways to get traffic it does take work, time and mental concentration. I have seen way too many people who have tried their hand at "ebay" and think they know it all and can sell anything online- not as easy as it looks and every day there are domains for sale that just did not make it because people got in over their heads - sounds kinda like the stock market situation ??? There is no "quick fix" or magic formula that will make you an instant millionaire so if you are looking to strike it rich quick and easy, do us all a favor and invest in lottery tickets. There are many hard working people who sell successfully online but they put long hours, blood sweat and tears into getting to the top and the job never ends. Even when you get your store up and running there is maintainance,links, seo, traffic, emails, orders and customers to deal with. I love the easy and accessability of the internet and all the freedom it brings to people all over the world but the internet like any other venue has those who exploit and mis-use it. So those who do have success online need to guard against those who would take advantage of their hard work yet we also want to be able to help others avoid the pitfalls as we have. Look for help and guidance from those who have successful sites - remember "you get what you pay for" Great words to live by.
