Recycled Christmas Decorations
By S.e. Simmons of Fortress Nutrition
There are so many beautiful decorations in every store we look in and yes they are all tempting but why not reuse some of the things we already have around the house and be a little green this year. Old phone books can easily be turned into cute christmas trees- fold the top half of the page into the center creating a triangle then fold up the bottom corner to make a point, do this for all the pages ( keep the covers and do them too for added strength when putting together and storing) I did mine while watching tv and it went quickly. When done stand it upright and let it fan out now decorate it as you will or even spray paint it green. i put a Bow on top and added a small strand of craft beads ($.99)- it can also be used to stick holiday cards in to display them for all to see. Or get creative and add tiny ornaments or cut out paper and felt. Fun project for the kids is paper snowflakes they can put up on the windows. Fold your paper in half and then in half again with the folded sides on the right fold down to create a triangle ( one sid will be longer) in the area below crate your design being sure to touch both sides and then cut it our. gently unfold and instant snowflakes- vary colors for variety. Have tree ornament bulbs with out the hangers anymore, use an bowl and place them in it as a centerpiece you can add battery operated lights for more variety or place them in your plants for added holiday cheer. Those christmas potholders that you take out every year but never want to use can go up on the kitchen cupboards as decorations. Tie a little red ribbon around your towel bars for a festive look and hang your christmas cards on a visible door like a coat closet where everyone can see. Get creative and use the items available to you everyday then fill in with the store bought items but the home made ones are always treasured. |
